Things I've learned, that I never thought I needed to know

Today I learned how to disassemble the paper shredder, unclog it, put it back together and still have it working.

I'm on a cleaning frenzy. I recruited the kids to help so I wouldn't be stuck doing it all myself (what usually happens). I gave Jepup Man the job of shredding some old papers. He's 8, I thought he was old enough to know not to try and shove the whole stack in at once. I soon found out I was wrong. He came up stairs to tell me the shredder wasn't working anymore. So I went down with him to see what the problem was. Immediately I could smell like something electrical burning. I unplugged the shredder and took the top off. He had shoved a big stack of paper in there and most of it went through, but it was so far down in the blades that I couldn't get at it from the top or bottom.

I had to completely take the shredder apart, reach in with pliers and pry the paper out of the blades. I got most of it out, and when I reassembled it what was left was thin enough to pass through when I turned it back on.

I'm going to start keeping a list of all the odd little things I've learned being a SAHM. Maybe someday those skills will come in handy when I re-enter the job market.
